John Nelms, 4125 Normandy Ave., Dallas, Texas 75205, telephone 214-520-6522, is the elected judge of the 195th Judicial District Court (Texas) at the Frank Crowley Criminal Courts Bldg., 133 N. Industrial Blvd., Dallas, Texas 75207-4313, telephone 214-653-5812. A 1952 graduate of Highland Park High in Dallas, 1956 graduate of Texas A&M (B.A., Journalism), and a 1963 graduate of the University of Texas School of Law (LLB), he served as an officer in the U.S. Air Force from January 1957 to August 1960, mostly at the 615th AC&W Squadron in Pruem, Germany, where he was a Weapons Controller (1744). From 1963 to 1965, he was Dallas County Assistant District Attorney under D.A. Henry Wade; from 1965 to 1988 a criminal defense lawyer in private practice; and from 1988 to 1992, Dallas County Assistant D.A. under D.A. John Vance. He was elected judge in the November 1992 election, reelected in 1994 without opposition, and is unopposed in the 1998 election. He is married, the father of six. He was born November 16, 1934, at Dallas, Texas, to John F. Nelms and Vivian Nelms (nee Marsh). Wife, Sylvia, is an apartment locator (A.S.A.P. Apartment Finders, 214-599-9883) and son, Brian, is a sophomore at Highland Park High School.
